A Diamond in the Rough

Not so long ago our community garden was located on Adams street where it was just as prolific with produce as it is today in its new location.  Often while riding my bicycle through our little town I pass by the old lot and reminisce about all the botanical life that was left behind.  Although great effort was used to transplant many of our perennials to the new site much was left for the deer to forage on.  And with no automatic irrigation surely the strongest would not survive long.  So imagine my surprise to see a few wayward Shirley Poppies come to life in that old dried up field.  Did they survive through the years?  Were they new generation seeds that had come to life after a rainy spring?  If only they could talk....
