Our Story

Fostering community connections among Sisters, Oregon residents

The Sisters Community Garden traces its beginnings to 2002, when a group of enthusiastic gardeners was offered an acre of land on Adams Street in downtown Sisters to begin a community garden.

The group operated at that site until 2012, when it opened at a new location on Barclay Drive on land owned by Sisters Eagle Air and the Benson family. Volunteers build more than 50 raised beds and filled them with new soil, spread bark chips on walking paths, installed an electrical and an irrigation system and moved a small garden shed to the new location.

Grants from the Sisters Garden Club and the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council helped pay for much of the cost of relocating the garden, including fencing.

The garden operated at the airport location until 2025, when it needed to move because upgrades and needed security measures required by federal authorities instituted in 2023.

The garden board conducted a two year search for a new location, and in 2025 was welcomed by the Community Outreach, Resources and Emergency Shelter to build a new garden at its campus at 222 N. Trinity Way.

Members and volunteers began the extensive task of deconstructing or removing beds, soil, plants, fencing and other garden amenities and moving to the new location. Grants from St. Charles Foundation, the Roundhouse Foundation and Citizens for Community greatly assisted in the move.

The garden will open it next chapter at CORE in spring 2026.
